Ways to Give This Holiday Season
Toys
We are collecting toys, which will be given to Project Hospitality. We ask that all gifts
be at the church by December 19 worship, when we can include them in our blessings.
Clothing
We are collecting new and gently used hats, gloves, scarves, as well as new socks, to be
given to Project Hospitality. We ask that all gifts be at the church by December 19 worship, when we can
include them in our blessings.
Cards
We are inviting you to create cards for people in prison. Blanks are available at the church. Templates,
greeting suggestions, are available here: https://www.nyac.com/prisonministry
Because prisons have various rules we need to work within, please use only the cards available in church or in
the online templates. No glitter, stickers. Sign in pen or pencil, not magic marker. First names only. Your card
may go to a man or a woman.
We will gather them and pray for those who will receive them on November 28 in worship. (if you miss that
deadline, you may send to Pastor Matthew Querns 2300 Crompond Rd. Yorktown Heights NY 10598.
Package must be postmarked by December 5, 2021.)
Food
We continue to collect food for the St. Paul’s Food pantry. You are welcome to bring it in and leave it on the
windowsill in the front lobby. Looking for a volunteer who will transport this to St. Paul’s.
Money
Did you know you can benefit Bethel without spending an extra dime? Two ways:
iGive.com
create an account (name and email address). Click on the “Add iGive-it’s free” button.
Next, I clicked the search by name and added “Bethel”
You will get a shorter list if you add “Bethel United Methodist Church”
Scroll down to New York Staten Island and click on Bethel.
Next, you need to install the iGive Button (if you are on Chrome) Click the Install Now button.
On this page there is a video that explains what you are joining.
On the upper right is an Add to Chrome button.
It will verify that you want to add it. Click “add extension”, which takes you to a UMCmarket page thanking
you.
It says it will add the icon to your google page. I do not see that. But if you go back to the iGive page
https://www.igive.com/ you can select favorite stores. You can bookmark this page, to get to it quickly. They
currently have 2287 stores affiliated with them, ready to donate to your favorite cause!
Amazon Smile
You can also set up Amazon Smile. I am already registered, so I cannot walk through the registration process
with you (without creating a new Amazon account) but they have a page here:
https://www.aboutamazon.com/news/community/how-to-sign-up-for-amazonsmile
that explains how to do it.
The name of the charity you want to support here is Staten Island: Bethel United Methodist Church.
Every time you shop on Amazon using Amazon Smile, you will generate a donation to Bethel. Amazon says
it donates 0.5% of the purchase price to the charitable organization.
